DTC P0713: Malfunction of the Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor (high input)

DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
TCM conducts fault detection by monitoring the terminal voltage of the transmission fluid temperature sensor.

DESCRIPTIONS OF MONITOR METHODS
The CVT-ECU detects the fluid temperature -40°C (-40°F) or less for 5 seconds when the vehicle speed is 10km/h (6 mph) or more.

MONITOR EXECUTION
  • Vehicle speed 10 km/h (6 mph) or more.

MONITOR EXECUTION CONDITIONS (OTHER MONITOR AND SENSOR)
Other Monitor (There is no temporary DTC stored in memory for the item monitored below)
  • P0842, P0843: Malfunction of the secondary pressure sensor
  • P0847, P0848: Malfunction of primary pressure sensor
  • P2720, P2721: Malfunction of select pressure solenoid valve
Sensor (The sensor below is determined to be normal)
  • Secondary pressure sensor
  • Primary pressure sensor

LOGIC FLOW CHARTS (Monitor Sequence)

DTC SET CONDITIONS
Check Conditions
  • Vehicle speed: 10 km/h (6 mph) or more.
  • Voltage of battery: 10 volts or more.
Judgment Criteria
  • Value of temperature of transmission fluid: -40°C (-40°F) or less (5 seconds).

OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN
Transmission range: D (Drive the vehicle for 10 seconds or more while the accelerator opening angle is 20% or more).

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of transmission fluid temperature sensor
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors
  • Malfunction of TCM

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
STEP 1. Check for open circuit in SPWR and SGND line between the CVT assembly connector and the TCM connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the connector(s) or the wiring harness.

STEP 2. Voltage measurement at TCM connector (SPWR terminal).
(1) Connect the CVT assembly connector and the TCM connector.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(3) Measure the TCM connector side by backprobing.
(4) Measure the voltage between the TCM connector SPWR terminal and body ground.
OK: 0 V
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the connector(s) or the wiring harness.

STEP 3. Transmission fluid temperature sensor check.
Refer to .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Replace the transmission fluid temperature sensor (valve body harness). (Refer to .).

STEP 4. Symptom recheck after erasing diagnostic trouble code.
Is the diagnostic trouble code set?
Replace the TCM.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
