DTC P0515: Battery Temperature Sensor System

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
  • The battery temperature sensor is incorporated into the battery current sensor and it informs the ECM of battery temperature via the Local Interconnect Network (LIN).
  • In response to the signal, the ECM controls charging and discharging.

DTC SET CONDITIONS
Check Conditions
  • After 2 seconds since the ignition switch is turned ON or since the completion of engine start.
  • Battery positive voltage is more than 10 volts and is less than 16.5 volts.
Judgment Criterion
  • For 2 seconds, the battery temperature information from battery current sensor is abnormal.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
  • Prohibits generator output suppression control against current consumers (operates as a normal generator).

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (The most likely causes for this code to be set are:)
  • Battery temperature sensor failed.
  • ECM failed.

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
(1) Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to HOW TO CONNECT THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-IIISE) .
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) After the DTC has been deleted, read the DTC again.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the DTC P0515 set?
Go to Step 2.
It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent. Refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions .

STEP 2. Replace the battery current sensor.
(1) Replace the battery current sensor.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) After the DTC has been deleted, read the DTC again.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the DTC P0515 set?
Replace the ECM (Refer to Removal and Installation ).
The inspection is complete.
