Inspection Procedure 11: Outer tone alarm does not sound.

cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
The outer tone alarm sounds under the following conditions.
  • When the door is locked or unlocked with the keyless or keyless operation function
  • Door lock does not operate.
  • The keyless operation key is brought out of the vehicle.
  • Also, with a customization function, "Buzzer answer back" may be set to "Not Sound Buzzer".

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Malfunction of the outer tone alarm
  • Malfunction of the KOS&OSS-ECU
  • Malfunction of the connector
  • Function setting error or no setting with a customization

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the diagnostic trouble code.
Check if any DTC is set in the KOS&OSS-ECU.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to the "OFF" position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III) [Refer to "How to connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III) "].
(2) Turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to "ON".
(3) Check if DTC is set.
(4) Turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to "OFF".
Is the DTC set?
Refer to diagnostic trouble code chart .
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the other system diagnostic trouble code.
Check if any diagnostic trouble code is set in the ETACS-ECU.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to the "OFF" position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
Perform troubleshooting for the ETACS-ECU (Refer to GROUP 54A, ETACS, Troubleshooting ).
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check the customization.
Check that either of the followings other than "Not sound buzzer" is set for "Buzzer answer back" with the customization function.
  • At F.A.S.T.
  • At keyless
  • At Both
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Set either of the followings other than "Buzzer answer back" with the customization function (Refer to ).

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the actuator test.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to the "OFF" position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III) [Refer to "How to connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III) "].
(2) Turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to "ON".
(3) Check that the outer tone alarm sounds (Refer to ).
(4) Turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to "OFF".
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Resistance measurement at outer tone alarm connector (ground terminal).
(1) Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Measure the resistance between the outer tone alarm connector (ground terminal) and body ground.
OK: Continuity exists (2 ohms or less)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Check of open circuit in ground line between the outer tone alarm connector and the body ground.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction is suspected (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 7. Check of short to power supply, short to ground, and open circuit in DRVB line between the outer tone alarm connector and the KOS&OSS-ECU connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 8. Check of the troubles.
Replace the outer tone alarm. After the replacement, check that the outer tone alarm sounds when the outer tone alarm sounding conditions are met.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction is suspected (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Deal with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace KOS&OSS-ECU and register the ID codes (Refer to ).
