U2143-87 CAN comm err (PHEV-ECU)
 
 
caution
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect diagnostic trouble code may be set. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines.
  • Before replacing the ECU, ensure that the CAN bus lines is normal.
 
 
TROUBLE JUDGMENT
Check Condition
  • Both of the following conditions are met
    • 5 seconds or more elapse after the IGCT power supply is turned ON.
    • The power supply mode of the electric motor switch is ON (READY indicator: ON) or the drive battery is being charged.
Judgment Criterion
  • The CAN signal from the PHEV-ECU can not be received for 2.5 seconds or more.
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of CAN bus lines (HV1-CAN)
  • Malfunction of PHEV-ECU power supply circuit
  • Malfunction of PHEV-ECU
  • Malfunction of PHEV A/C amp.
 
 
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
1.M.U.T.-III SE CAN bus diagnosis
Use M.U.T.-III SE to diagnose the CAN bus line.
Is the inspection result normal?
Repair the CAN bus line. (Trouble Diagnosis Flow Chart)
 
2.M.U.T.-III SE other DTC
Check whether the DC-DC converter  sets the DTCs (No. U1D5F-87 or U2143-87) related.
Check whether the OBC sets the DTCs (No. U1D40-87 or U2143-87) related.
Check whether the power drive unit sets the DTCs (No. U1E33-87 or U2143-87) related.
Check whether the REMCU sets the DTCs (No. U1E70-87 or U2143-87) related.
Check whether the BMU sets the DTCs (No. U0293-00 or U2143-87) related.
Check whether the BMU2 sets the DTC (No. U2143-87) related.
Check whether the ECM sets the DTCs (No. U0293-00 or U2143-87) related.
Check whether the electrical parking driver unit sets the DTC (No. U2143-87) related.
Are the DTCs set?
 
3.Check whether the DTC is set again.
(1) Erase the set DTC.
(2) Depress the brake pedal to change the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to ON (READY indicator: ON), then wait for 5 seconds or more.
(3) Check whether the DTC is set again.
Is the DTC set?
Replace PHEV-ECU. Refer to PHEV-ECU REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION. then
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction. Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS.
 
4.Check whether the DTC is set again.
(1) Erase the set DTC.
(2) Depress the brake pedal to change the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to ON (READY indicator: ON), then wait for 5 seconds or more.
(3) Check whether the DTC is set again.
Is the DTC set?
Replace PHEV A/C amp. Refer to Removal and Installation.
