Inspection Procedure 4: The indicator on the normal charging cable does not illuminate normally. (Detection of electric leakage or abnormality occurrence of communication)

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
When the communication error of the pilot signal or the leakage of the normal charging high voltage circuit is detected, the indicator on the normal charging cable illuminates or blinks as follows.
  • READY (GREEN): Illuminate
  • POWER (ORANGE): OFF
  • FAULT (RED): Blink

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Malfunction of the normal charging cable
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors
  • Malfunction of the EV home & quick charger cable
  • Malfunction of the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter

DIAGNOSIS
danger
Required Special Tools:
  • MB991223: Wiring harness set
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
1.Check of the normal charging cable.
Check the normal charging cable (Refer to CHARGING CABLE CHECK).
Is the check result normal?
Replace the normal charging cable.

2.Check of short to ground circuit between On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter and normal charge port connector (pilot signal line).
Check the following wiring harness for short to ground circuit.
  • Short to ground circuit between the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter connector (No. 11 terminal) and normal charge port connector (No. 3 terminal).
Is the check result normal?
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness, or replace the EV home & quick charger cable.

3.Voltage measurement at the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter connector (pilot signal line)
(1) Disconnect the connector , and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Change the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to ON (READY indicator: OFF).
(3) Measure the voltage between the following terminals.
  • •Voltage between the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter connector (No. 7 terminal) and body ground
OK: 1 volt or less
Is the check result normal?
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness, or replace the EV home & quick charger cable (Refer to EV HOME & QUICK CHARGER CABLE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION) .

4.Check of the normal charge port connector for the insulation resistance
danger
cautionBefore measuring the insulation resistance, set the range of the electric insulation tester (Special tool: MB992355) to 500 V.If a range exceeding 500 V is used for the measurement, the part may be damaged.
(1) Disconnect the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter connector (H9), and measure the insulation resistance at the wiring harness side.
(2) Measure the following harness for resistance
  • •Resistance between On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter connector (HOT terminal), and body ground
  • •Resistance between On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter connector (COLD terminal), and body ground
OK: 10 MΩ or more
Is the check result normal?
Replace the EV home & quick charger cable (Refer to EV HOME & QUICK CHARGER CABLE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION) .

5.Retest the system.
Does the trouble symptom persist?
Replace the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter (Refer to ON BOARD CHARGER (OBC) &DC-DC CONVERTER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION).
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).
