DTC C2333 SAS malfunction

cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

OPERATION
The BSW-ECU (master) communicates with the steering wheel sensor via the gateway-ECU and the CAN bus lines.

CHECK CONDITION
Ignition switch is in the ON position.

DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION AND JUDGMENT CRITERIA
When the BSW-ECU (master) receives any of the signals below via CAN bus lines, the ECU sets DTC C2333.
  • Implausible signal from the steering wheel sensor
  • Signal indicating internal error from the steering wheel sensor
  • Invalid steering wheel angle signal for at least 1.5 seconds from the steering wheel sensor

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Improperly installed column switch assembly (integrated with steering wheel sensor)
  • The steering wheel sensor (incorporated in column switch assembly) may be defective
  • The CAN bus line may be defective
  • The BSW-ECU (master) may be defective

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Steering wheel sensor installation check
Check that the steering wheel sensor is installed correctly.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Reinstall the column switch assembly (integrated with steering wheel sensor) (Refer to Column Switch Assembly Removal and Installation ).

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III) data list
Check the following data list (Refer to Data List Reference Table ).
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "How to connect Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III) ."
(2) Check the input signals from the blind spot warning switch.
  • Vehicle stopped (the steering wheel is in the neutral position)

Item No.Item nameNormal condition
7Steering wheel angle-5 to 5 deg
  • Vehicle is running.

Item No.Item nameNormal condition
7Steering wheel angleNearly the same as the steering wheel operation angle (-750 to 750 deg)
OK: Normal condition is displayed.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Replace the column switch assembly (integrated with steering wheel sensor) (Refer to Column Switch Assembly Removal and Installation ).

STEP 3. Check whether the DTC is set again.
Check again if the DTC is set in the BSW-ECU (master).
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position.
(3) Check if the DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the column switch assembly (integrated with steering wheel sensor) (Refer to Column Switch Assembly Removal and Installation ). Then go to Step 4.
Intermittent malfunction is suspected (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

STEP 4. Check whether the DTC is set again.
Check again if the DTC is set in the BSW-ECU (master).
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position.
(3) Check if the DTC is set.
Is the check result normal?
This diagnosis is complete.
Replace the BSW-ECU (master).
