Inspection Procedure 12: ETACS-ECU does not receive any signal from the column switch signal.
 
 
 
 
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
The ETACS-ECU receives the column switch signal via the LIN communication. If there is an abnormality to column switch or LIN bus line, the lights and wiper/washer do not work normally.
 
 
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The lighting switch may be defective
  • The wiper/washer switch may be defective
  • The LIN bus line may be defective
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, read the ETACS diagnostic trouble code.
Check the DTC is set in the ETACS-ECU.

cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool MB991958, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool MB991958.
Connect scan tool MB991958. Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position.
(3) Check if DTC is set.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the DTC set?
Troubleshoot the ETACS-ECU (Refer to ).
Go to Step 2.
 
STEP 2. Column switch check
  • Check the continuity for lighting switch. Refer to .
  • Check the continuity for wiper/washer switch. Refer to .
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
<Lighting switch> : Replace the lighting switch.
<Wiper/washer switch> : Replace the wiper/washer switch.
