Inspection Procedure 9: ETACS-ECU does not receive any signal from the liftgate latch switch.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If there is an error to the liftgate latch switch input signal, the liftgate latch switch signal is no longer output to the communication line.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The liftgate latch switch may be defective
  • The ETACS-ECU may be defective
  • The wiring harness or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB991223: Harness Set
  • MB992006: Extra Fine Probe
STEP 1. Check liftgate latch switch connector G-11 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.
Is liftgate latch switch connector G-11 in good condition?
Go to Step 2.
Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to GROUP 00E, Harness Connector Inspection . Check that the input signal of liftgate latch switch is normal.

STEP 2. Check the liftgate latch switch.
Remove the liftgate latch switch. Then check the continuity between the switch terminals and the switch body.

Is the liftgate latch switch in good condition?
Go to Step 3.
Replace the liftgate latch switch. Check that the input signal of liftgate latch switch is normal.

STEP 3. Measure at the lower metal part of the liftgate latch switch in order to check the ground circuit to the liftgate latch switch.
noteCheck that the liftgate latch switch is grounded to the vehicle body by means of its mounting screw.
Remove the cap, and measure the resistance value between the lower metal part and ground.
  • The resistance should equal 2 ohms or less.
Is the measured resistance 2 ohms or less?
Go to Step 4.
Check the fit of the switch, and repair if necessary. Check that the input signal of liftgate latch switch is normal.

STEP 4. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-412 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.
Is ETACS-ECU connector C-412 in good condition?
Go to Step 5.
Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to GROUP 00E, Harness Connector Inspection . Check that the input signal of liftgate latch switch is normal.

STEP 5. Check the wiring harness between liftgate latch switch connector G-11 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-412 (terminal 5).
Check the input lines for open circuit and short circuit.
noteAlso check intermediate connector G-23 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector G-23 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in GROUP 00E, Harness Connector Inspection .
Is the wiring harness between liftgate latch switch connector G-11 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-412 (terminal 5) in good condition?
Replace the ETACS-ECU. Check that the input signal of liftgate latch switch is normal.
The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. Check that the input signal of liftgate latch switch is normal.
