Inspection Procedure 3: The radio broadcasting cannot be received. <AM/FM radio>

cautionBefore replacing the multivision display, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
In case of radio broadcasting cannot be received, the shark fin antenna base (fin antenna), antenna feeder or multivision display may have a problem.
noteThe radio wave may not be received if the vehicle is placed in the area which is exposed to a special electric field. Thus, check that the radio broadcasting can be received using the radio of another vehicle before carrying out diagnosis.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The shark fin antenna base (fin antenna) may be defective
  • The antenna feeder may be defective
  • The multivision display may be defective

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB991223: Harness Set
  • MB992006: Extra Fine Probe
STEP 1. Check the state of the fin antenna.
Is the antenna assembled?
Go to Step 2.
Assemble shark fin antenna base (fin antenna).

STEP 2. Check to see if inspections are taking place is an area exposed to special electric fields.
Is the reception area exposed to special electric fields?
Go to Step 3.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 3. Move the vehicle and check the radio.
Move the vehicle to a good reception area that is not exposed to special electric fields.
Is the check result normal?
Diagnosis complete.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check if there is any damage to the fin antenna and antenna feeder.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the shark fin antenna base (fin antenna) and antenna feeder.

STEP 5. Check the connection of the antenna feeder’s plug and multivision display.
Is the antenna feeder’s plug thoroughly connected to the multivision display?
Go to Step 6.
Thoroughly connect the antenna feeder’s plug and the multivision display.

STEP 6. Check antenna amplifier connector C-107 and multivision display connector C-138 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.
Are antenna amplifier connector C-107 and multivision display connector C-138 in good condition?
Go to Step 7.
Repair or replace the damaged component(s) (Refer to GROUP 00E, Harness Connector Inspection).

STEP 7. Check the wiring harness between antenna amplifier connector C-107 (terminal 1) and multivision display connector C-138 (terminal 34).
  • Check the communication line for open circuit and short circuit.
Is the wiring harness between antenna amplifier connector C-107 (terminal 1) and multivision display connector C-138 (terminal 34) in good condition?
Go to Step 8.
The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary.

STEP 8. Substitute a known good multivision display, and check the trouble symptom.
Is the check result normal?
Replace the multivision display (Refer to ).
Either repair or replace the shark fin antenna base (fin antenna).
