DTC B1E23 Indirect Light/IG Key Light Overload or Short Circuit

cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT
DTC No. B1E23 will be set when the sunshade illumination control circuit fails.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
DTC No. B1E23 will be set if the ETACS-ECU detects a short to ground between itself and the sunshade illumination.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The spot light assembly may be defective
  • The wiring harness or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector
  • The ETACS-ECU may be defective

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB991223: Harness Set
  • MB992006: Extra Fine Probe
STEP 1. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-415, sunshade illumination (RH) connector E-10, sunshade illumination (LH) connector E-13 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.
Is ETACS-ECU connector C-415, sunshade illumination (RH) connector E-10, sunshade illumination (LH) connector E-13 in good condition?
Go to Step 2.
Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to GROUP 00E, Harness Connector Inspection .

STEP 2. Check the following wiring harness.
Check the wiring harness for short circuit between the following connectors:
  • Check the wiring harness between sunshade illumination (LH) connector E-13 (terminal 2) and ETACS-ECU connector C-415 (terminal 18).
  • Check the wiring harness between sunshade illumination (RH) connector E-10 (terminal 2) and ETACS-ECU connector C-415 (terminal 18).
noteAlso check intermediate connectors C-226, E-14 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connectors C-226, E-14 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in GROUP 00E, Harness Connector Inspection .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary.

STEP 3. Check the following wiring harness.
Check the wiring harness for short to ground circuit between the following connectors:
  • Check the wiring harness between sunshade illumination (LH) connector E-13 (terminal 1) and the ground.
  • Check the wiring harness between sunshade illumination (RH) connector E-10 (terminal 1) and the ground.
noteAlso check intermediate connectors E-14 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connectors E-14 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in GROUP 00E, Harness Connector Inspection .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary.

STEP 4. Using scan tool MB991958, check whether the DTC is set again.
Check again if DTC No.B1E23 is set in the ETACS-ECU.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn on the sunshade illumination.
(3) Check if DTC No.B1E23 is set.
Is the DTC set?
Go to Step 5.
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

STEP 5. Using scan tool MB991958, check whether the DTC is set again.
Check again if DTC No.B1E23 is set in the ETACS-ECU.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Disconnect the sunshade illumination connector.
(3) Turn on the sunshade illumination.
(4) Check if DTC No.B1E23 is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
Replace the spot light assembly.
