DTC P2719: Abnormality in Select Pressure Solenoid Valve Function

DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
TCM determines that the system is defective by monitoring the select pressure solenoid valve.

DESCRIPTIONS OF MONITOR METHODS
  • The system detects a shorter range selection period than a certain value (N → D: 0.4 seconds, N → R: 0.3 seconds, P → R: 0.3 seconds) three times while all of the following conditions are satisfied.
    • The engine is running.
    • Selector lever position: D, R
    • Fluid temperature: 20°C (-4°F) or more
    • Vehicle speed: 3 km/h (2 mph) or less
  • When all the conditions listed below are met and the forward clutch or the reverse brake is slipping for 30 seconds while driving forward or backward.
    • The engine is running.
    • Selector lever position: D, R
    • Vehicle speed: 3 km/h (2 mph) or less

MONITOR EXECUTION
  • Voltage of battery: 10 volts or more.

DTC SET CONDITIONS
Check Conditions <Output Functional High>
  • Voltage of battery: 10 volts or more.
  • Transmission fluid temperature: 20°C (-4°F) or more.
  • Transmission range switch position: D or R.
  • Accelerator position: Less than 1.23 V.
  • Vehicle speed: Less than 3 km/h (2 mph).
  • Turbine speed at before "N to D", "N to R" or "P to R" shifting: More than 500 r/min.
  • Time since shifting: Less than defined time*.
    note*: Defined time
    1. N to D shifting: 0.4 second or less
    2. N to R shifting: 0.3 second or less
    3. P to R shifting: 0.3 second or less
Check Conditions <Output Functional Low>
  • Voltage of battery: 10 volts or more.
  • Transmission range switch position: D or R.
  • Vehicle speed: Less than 3 km/h (2 mph).
  • Primary pulley speed - Secondary pulley speed: Less than 120 r/min.
  • Forward clutch target pressure: 0.95 MPa (138 psi) or more.
  • Turbine speed - Engine speed: Less than 200 r/min.
Judgment Criteria <Output Functional High>
  • Turbine speed: 200 r/min or less (3 times).
Judgment Criteria <Output Functional Low>
  • Turbine speed - Primary pulley speed: More than 450 r/min (Accumulated 30 seconds).

OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN
The vehicle is driven for at least 10 seconds with the accelerator opening angle at 20% or more.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of valve body assembly (Faulty select pressure solenoid valve)
  • Malfunction of the CVT assembly

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. M.U.T.-III diagnostic trouble code
Is diagnostic trouble code No. P2720 or P2721 set?
Carry out the appropriate troubleshooting.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Measure the output wave pattern of the select pressure solenoid valve at TCM connector (LBLS terminal).
(1) Connect the CVT assembly connector.
(2) Engine: Idling
(3) When the vehicle is stationary
(4) Selector lever position: N
(5) Connect an oscilloscope, and measure the voltage between TCM connector LBLS terminal and body ground.
OK: A wave pattern such as the one shown on (Check Procedure Using an Oscilloscope) should be output. There should be no noise in the output wave pattern.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Refer to diagnostic trouble code No.P2720: Malfunction of Select Pressure Solenoid Valve (low input) , or diagnostic trouble code No.P2721: Malfunction of Select Pressure Solenoid Valve (high input) .

STEP 3. Symptom recheck after erasing diagnostic trouble code
Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position, and wait for one minute. Then, drive the vehicle for a while and check again.
Is the diagnostic trouble code set?
Replace the CVT assembly.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
