DTC P1B78: Quick Charger received current

cautionWhenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT
The current value received from the quick charger or the external power supply equipment is abnormal.
noteIf the DTCs are set only when you use a certain quick charger/external power supply equipment, the quick charger/external power supply equipment may be faulty.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of CHG-CAN
  • Malfunction of the external power supply equipment
  • Malfunction of quick charger.
  • Malfunction of the PHEV-ECU.

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools
  • MB991223: Wiring harness set
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
STEP 1. Resistance measurement at the PHEV-ECU connector.
cautionA digital multimeter should be used. For details refer to GROUP 54C - Precautions On How To Repair The Can Bus Lines .
(1) Remove the PHEV-ECU, and measure at the component side.
(2) Resistance between CNEL terminal and CNEH terminal
OK: 120 ± 20 Ω
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Replace the PHEV-ECU (Refer to ).

STEP 2. Check the signal line for open circuit and short to ground (Quick charging connector and PHEV-ECU connector).
cautionA digital multimeter should be used. For details refer to GROUP 54C - Precautions On How To Repair The Can Bus Lines .
cautionThe test wiring harness should be used. For details refer to GROUP 54C - Precautions On How To Repair The Can Bus Lines .
(1) Connect the PHEV-ECU connector.
(2) Measure the resistance between quick charger connector terminal No.9 and body ground.
Measure the resistance between quick charger connector terminal No.8 and body ground.
OK: No continuity
(3) Measure the resistance between quick charger connector terminal No.9 and terminal No.8.
OK: 120 ± 20 Ω
cautionStrictly observe the specified wiring harness repair procedure. For details refer to GROUP 54C - Precautions On How To Repair The Can Bus Lines .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the connector or wiring harness.

STEP 3. Check whether the DTC is set again.
noteCharge the battery by using the quick charger/external power supply equipment other than the defective one.
(1) Erase the diagnostic trouble code.
(2) Perform quick charging.
(3) Check if the diagnostic trouble code is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the PHEV-ECU (Refer to ).
Ask the user to inspect the quick charger or external power supply equipment.
