DTC U0166: Electric Heater CAN timeout
 
 
caution
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect DTC may be set. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ).
  • Whenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.
 
 
DTC SET CONDITIONS
The PHEV-ECU sets DTC U0166 when it cannot communicate with the electric heater ECU via CAN correctly.
 
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of CAN bus line.
  • Malfunction of the electric heater (integrated with electric heater ECU).
  • Malfunction of the PHEV-ECU.
 
 
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose CAN bus line.
Use the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ). On completion, go to Step 2.
 
STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set again.
Recheck the DTC.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn off the power supply mode of the electric motor switch.
(3) Turn on the power supply mode of the electric motor switch.
(4) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Go to Step 3.
The procedure is complete.
 
STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the other DTC is set.
Check whether the electric heater ECU related DTC is set (Refer to GROUP 55 - Troubleshooting, Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart ).
Is the DTC set?
Troubleshoot for the relevant DTC.
Go to Step 4.
 
STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set again.
Recheck the DTC.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn off the power supply mode of the electric motor switch.
(3) Turn on the power supply mode of the electric motor switch.
(4) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the PHEV-ECU (Refer to ).
The procedure is complete.
