Inspection Procedure A-4: Power liftgate automatic operation (close) does not work normally.
 
 
cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.
 
 
 
 
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
Component other than Mitsubishi genuine parts or accessories is fitted on the liftgate. The quarter trim interferes with the power liftgate motor arm. There may also be a malfunction in one of the followings; the improperly installed weatherstrip, the liftgate gas spring, the half latch switch system, the neutral switch system or the power liftgate control unit itself.
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • A component other than Mitsubishi genuine parts or accessories is fitted on the liftgate.
  • The quarter trim interferes with the power liftgate motor arm.
  • Improperly installed weatherstrip
  • Half latch switch system failed
  • Neutral latch switch system failed
  • Damaged liftgate gas spring
  • Damaged power liftgate control unit
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Check of power liftgate control unit learning
When the power liftgate control unit is replaced, battery is replaced, or fuse is replaced with the liftgate open, the learning of power liftgate control unit must be performed. With the power liftgate control unit learning, manually fully close the liftgate that is open.
Is a replacement of power liftgate control unit, battery, or fuse with liftgate open performed?
Manually fully close the liftgate that is open. Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 2.
 
STEP 2. Parts installation check of liftgate
Check whether a component other than Mitsubishi genuine parts or accessories is fitted on the liftgate.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Remove the components other than Mitsubishi genuine parts or accessories.
 
STEP 3. Liftgate gas spring check
Visually check the liftgate gas spring for damage. Also check whether its operation is too smooth or too heavy.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Replace the liftgate gas spring.
 
STEP 4. Interference inspection: quarter trim and power liftgate motor arm
Check whether the quarter trim interferes with the power liftgate motor arm.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Install the power liftgate control unit or the quarter trim securely.
 
STEP 5. Weatherstrip installation check
Is the weatherstrip installed properly? Also check whether the weatherstrip is loose.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Install the weatherstrip securely.
 
STEP 6. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check data list.
Check the signals related to the power liftgate operation.
  • Half latch switch: OFF → ON
  • Neutral switch: OFF → ON

STEP 7. Check of the troubles
Check whether the power liftgate works normally.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction .)
Replace the power liftgate control unit.
