Inspection Procedure A-2: Power liftgate automatic operation and easy closer system do not work normally.

cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
The wiring harness or its connector(s) between the ETACS-ECU and the power liftgate control unit, the ETACS-ECU itself or the power liftgate control unit itself may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of ETACS-ECU
  • Damaged power liftgate control unit
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB991223: Harness Set
  • MB992006: Extra Fine Probe
STEP 1. Keyless entry system operation check.
Check that the door lock/unlock is performed when the keyless operation key is operated.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Refer to GROUP 42B - Trouble Symptom Chart <KOS-ECU> .

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the electric motor switch to the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the electric motor switch to ON.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Turn the electric motor switch to OFF.
Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C, Diagnosis ).

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the other system diagnostic trouble code.
Check if any DTC is set in the ETACS-ECU.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the electric motor switch to the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the electric motor switch to ON.
(3) Check if DTC is set.
(4) Turn the electric motor switch to OFF.
Is the DTC set?
Perform troubleshooting for the ETACS-ECU (Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS-ECU - Troubleshooting ).
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the diagnostic trouble code.
(1) Operate the power liftgate.
(2) Check whether a diagnostic trouble code is set in the power liftgate control unit.
Is the DTC set?
Refer to diagnosis trouble code chart .
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check data list.
Check the signals related to the power liftgate operation.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the electric motor switch to the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the electric motor switch to OFF.
(3)
  • Turn the electric motor switch to the OFF position.

Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Refer to Inspection Procedure A-1 "Power supply voltage abnormality of power liftgate control unit" .

STEP 6. Check of the troubles
Check that the power liftgate and the easy closer system work normally.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction .)
Replace the power liftgate control unit.
