INSPECTION PROCEDURE 12: The inside/outside air changeover is impossible

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If the air recirculation cannot be changed by using the inside air/outside air changeover switch, the outside/inside air selection dumper control motor system may be faulty.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINT
  • Malfunction of the outside/inside air selection damper control motor
  • Malfunction of the blower case assembly
  • Malfunction of the outside/inside air selection dumper
  • Damaged wiring harness or connectors
  • Malfunction of the A/C controller assembly(A/C-ECU)

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. M.U.T.-IIISE actuator test Carry out the actuator test.
Item No.11: Out/Inside air selection damper position reset
OK: After reset, is the outside/inside air change possible?
Is the check result normal?
This diagnosis is complete.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Measure the voltage at the outside/inside air selection dumper control motor connector.
(1) Disconnect the connector and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Voltage between outside/inside air selection damper control motor connector IG1 line terminal and body ground.
OK: The voltage should measure approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check of open circuit short to ground, and damage in IG1 line between outside/inside air selection damper control motor connector, body ground and A/C controller assembly (A/C-ECU) connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair or replace the wiring harness or connector(s).

STEP 4. Recheck the trouble symptom.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the A/C controller assembly (A/C-ECU).

STEP 5. Check of open circuit short to ground, and damage in FA, FB, FA' and FB' line between outside/inside air selection damper control motor connector and heater control panel assembly (A/C-ECU) connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair or replace the wiring harness or connector(s).

STEP 6. Check the operation of the outside/inside air selection damper.
(1) Remove the outside/inside air selection damper control motor.
(2) Turn the outside/inside air selection damper by hand through the mounting opening of the air refresher to check whether the outside/inside air selection damper works normally.
OK: The inside air and the outside air switch normally.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Replace the blower case assembly or outside/inside air selection dumper.

STEP 7. Recheck the trouble symptom.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the Outside/Inside air selection damper control motor. Then go to Step 8.

STEP 8. Recheck the trouble symptom.
Is the check result normal?
This diagnosis is complete.
Replace the A/C controller assembly (A/C-ECU).
