INSPECTION PROCEDURE 16: Air outlets changeover is impossible.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If the air conditioning outlets changeover is impossible, the mode selection damper control motor or the A/C controller assembly (A/C-ECU) may be faulty.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINT
  • Malfunction of the mode selection damper control motor
  • Malfunction of the motor lever
  • Malfunction of the upper case assembly (integrated mode selection damper)
  • Damaged wiring harness or connectors
  • Malfunction of the A/C controller assembly (A/C-ECU)

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. M.U.T.-IIISE actuator test
Carry out the actuator test.
Item 9: Mode selection damper position reset position reset
OK: After reset, is the mode selection damper change possible?
Is the check result normal?
This diagnosis is complete.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Voltage measurement at mode selection damper control motor connector.
(1) Disconnect the connector and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Voltage between mode selection damper control motor connector IG1 line terminal and body ground.
OK: The voltage should measure approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check the open circuit short to ground, and damage in IG1 line between mode selection damper control motor connector and A/C controller assembly (A/C-ECU) connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair or replace the wiring harness or connector(s).

STEP 4. Recheck the trouble symptom.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the A/C controller assembly (A/C-ECU).

STEP 5. Check of open circuit, short to ground, and damage in MA, MB, MA' and MB' line between mode selection damper control motor connector and A/C controller assembly (A/C-ECU) connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair or replace the wiring harness or connector(s).

STEP 6. Check the operation of the mode selection damper.
(1) Remove the mode selection damper control motor.
(2) Check if there is any foreign material around the mode lever of the A/C unit, and remove it if necessary.
(3) Operate the blower and turn the mode lever of the A/C unit by hand to check whether the mode selection damper works normally.
OK: The air is distributed through the appropriate air outlet (When the mode lever is turned fully toward the vehicle front direction, the air is distributed through the DEF only. When the mode lever is turned fully toward the vehicle rear direction, the air is distributed through the FACE only).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Replace the upper case assembly or motor lever.

STEP 7. Recheck the trouble symptom.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the mode selection damper control motor. Then go to Step 8.

STEP 8.
