Inspection Procedure 4: Audio illuminations does not work normally.

cautionBefore replacing the multivision display ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If the taillights illuminate, illumination signal is sent from the A/C controller assembly to the multivision display. This switches the illumination of the multivision display from day mode to night mode. If the mode is switched, the illumination signal line, the A/C controller assembly or the multivision display may be defective.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The multivision display may be defective
  • The A/C controller assembly may be defective
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB991223: Harness Set
  • MB992006: Extra Fine Probe
STEP 1. Check the multivision display setting.
(1) Start the multivision display.
(2) On the "Home" screen, to select "Day/Night Setting."
Is it set to "Auto"?
Go to Step 2.
Set "Day/Night Setting" to "Auto."

STEP 2. Check that the taillights illuminate.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Diagnose the taillights (Refer to ).

STEP 3. Voltage measurement at multivision display connector (ILL+ terminal).
(1) Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Turn the taillight switch to ON position.
(3) Check the voltage between the multivision display connector (ILL+ terminal) and body ground.
OK: The voltage should measure approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 5.

STEP 4. Retest the system.
Check that the audio illuminations are work normally.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
Replace the multivision display.

STEP 5. Check of short to power supply, short to ground, and open circuit in ILL+ line between multivision display connector and A/C controller assembly connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. Retest the system.
Check that the audio illuminations are work normally.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
Replace the A/C controller assembly.
