Inspection Procedure 1: Electric-folding door mirrors do not work at all.

caution
  • Before replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.
  • When the ETACS-ECU of vehicles without KOS is replaced, the encrypted code of the ignition key needs to be registered to the ETACS-ECU (If the encrypted code is not registered, the engine cannot be started. Register the encrypted code as described in GROUP 54A, Immobilizer System - How to Register Key ID ).

CIRCUIT OPERATION
The ETACS-ECU operates this function in accordance with the input signals below.
  • Ignition switch (ACC)
  • Electric remote controlled mirror switch (folding/unfolding switch)

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If the system does not work, the input circuit from the ignition switch (ACC) or the remote controlled mirror switch (folding/unfolding switch), or the ETACS-ECU may be faulty.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Defective remote controlled mirror switch
  • Defective ignition switch (ACC)
  • Malfunction of ETACS-ECU
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB991223: Harness Set
  • MB992006: Extra Fine Probe
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the ETACS-ECU DTC.
Check if DTC is set in the ETACS-ECU.
Is the DTC set?
Troubleshoot the ETACS (Refer to GROUP 54A, Diagnostic trouble code chart ).
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check data list.
Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the ETACS system data list (Refer to GROUP 54A, ETACS - Troubleshooting, Data List Reference Table ).
  • Item 91: Mirror switch
  • Item 111: ACC switch
Is the check result normal?
: Go to Step 3.
: GROUP 54A, ETACS - Inspection Procedure 13 "The remote controlled mirror switch (fold switch) signal is not received." .
: GROUP 54A, ETACS - Inspection Procedure 1 "The ignition switch (ACC) signal is not received" .

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check data list.
Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the ETACS system data list (Refer to GROUP 54A, ETACS - Troubleshooting, Data List Reference Table ).
  • Item 71: Fold mirror open
  • Item 72: Fold mirror close
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check of short to ground, and open circuit in +B2 line between fusible link and ETACS-ECU connector
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 5. Retest the system.
Check that the electric folding door mirrors work normally.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace ETACS-ECU.
