INSPECTION PROCEDURE A-5: Selector "P" position-linked door unlock function does not operate.

caution
  • Before replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.
  • When the ETACS-ECU of vehicles without KOS is replaced, the encrypted code of the ignition key needs to be registered to the ETACS-ECU. (If the encrypted code is not registered, the engine cannot be started. Register the encrypted code as described in Immobilizer System - How to Register Key ID ).

OPERATION
ETACS-ECU determines whether the shift position is at "P" or not according to the shift position signal which is sent by TCM.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the doors are not unlocked when the selector lever is shifted to the P position, a malfunction of the shift position signal input circuit(s) or ETACS-ECU is suspected. Also, the selector "P" position-linked door unlock function may have been "disabled" with the customization function.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Malfunction of CAN bus line
  • Malfunction of ETACS-ECU
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Checking central door unlocking operation.
Check that the central door locking system works normally.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Refer to Central Door Locking System Symptom Chart .

STEP 2. Check the customization function.
Check that "Always (Shift P position)" is set for "Auto door unlock" with the customization function.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Set "Always (Shift P position)" for "Auto door unlock" with the customization function (Refer to Customization Function ).

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) CAN bus diagnostics
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Check whether CAN bus lines related DTC is set.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C, Troubleshooting <CAN> ).

STEP 4. Check the M.U.T.-IIISE Diagnostic trouble code of other systems
Check that TCM sets a diagnostic trouble code.
Is the DTC set?
Diagnose TCM (Refer to GROUP 23A, Troubleshooting ).
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Retest the system.
Check that shifting the selector lever to the P position unlocks the doors.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace ETACS-ECU.
