DTC C1657 Implausible coding data
 
 
cautionWhenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.
 
 
OPERATION
Vehicle information is written in EPS-ECU by coding.
 
 
 
FUNCTION
The EPS-ECU judges the vehicle condition by the written coding data.
 
 
 
TROUBLE JUDGMENT
Check Conditions
  • Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
Judgment Criterion
  • When the abnormality in the coding information is detected.
Fail Safe, Back Up Function
  • The EPS-ECU sets DTC C1657.
  • Aggravated feeling of steerage
 
 
 
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Abnormality in the coding information.
  • Malfunction of the column switch assembly (integrated with steering wheel sensor).
  • Malfunction of the EPS motor (EPS-ECU).
 
 
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line.
Diagnose the CAN bus line.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN-Related Diagnosis Code Table ).
 
STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the data list.
Check the following data list (Refer to ).
  • Item No. 22: Steering wheel angle
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Replace the column switch assembly (integrated with steering wheel sensor) (Refer to GROUP 54A - Column switch assembly ).
 
STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set again.
(1) Erase the DTC code.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position (Engine running).
Is the DTC set?
Replace the EPS motor (EPS-ECU). (Refer to ).
