DTC C1538 Detection of the steering neutral position deviation

cautionWhenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.

OPERATION
EPS-ECU receives steering angle information from the steering wheel sensor.

FUNCTION
Based on the steering angle information the EPS-ECU receives when the ignition switch is in the ON position, the EPS-ECU learns the neutral position of the steering wheel and performs the control to improve the steering wheel return.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT
Check Conditions
  • Driving straight at a vehicle speed of 30 km/h (18.6 mph) or more.
Judgment Criterion
  • As a result of learning the steering neutral position based on the steering angle of the steering wheel sensor, the correction value exceeds 18 angle.
Fail Safe, Back Up Function
  • The EPS-ECU sets DTC C1538.
  • Aggravated feeling of steerage

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Malfunction of the steering wheel sensor
  • Malfunction of the EPS-ECU

DIAGNOSIS
1. Check the service data "Item No. 22: Steering wheel angle" and if there is an abnormality, replace the column switch assembly (integrated with steering wheel sensor) (Refer to GROUP 54A - Column switch assembly ).
2. Erase the diagnostic trouble code, and drive straight at a vehicle speed of 30 km/h (18.6 mph) or more.
3. If the diagnostic trouble code is not set again, it is intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ). If the diagnostic trouble code is set again, replace the EPS motor (EPS-ECU) (Refer to ).
