DTC C1219 Steering angle sensor signal

caution
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect DTC may be set. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C, CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ).
  • Whenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.

OPERATION
EPS-ECU receives steering angle information from the steering wheel sensor.

FUNCTION
Based on the steering angle sensor information the EPS-ECU receives when the ignition switch is in the ON position, the EPS-ECU learns the neutral position of the steering wheel and performs the control to improve the steering wheel return.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT
Check Conditions
  • Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position (Engine running).
Judgment Criterion
  • When an abnormal steering angle information is received from the steering wheel sensor.
Fail Safe, Back Up Function
  • The EPS-ECU sets DTC C1219
  • Aggravated feeling of steerage

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Malfunction of CAN bus line (external noise interference)
  • Malfunction of the steering wheel sensor
  • Malfunction of the EPS-ECU

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line.
Diagnose the CAN bus line.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN-Related Diagnosis Code Table ).

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the other DTC is set.
Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) to check that DTC is set in the steering wheel sensor.
Is any DTC set?
Troubleshoot for the relevant DTC (Refer to GROUP 35C -Troubleshooting <steering wheel sensor>).
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set again.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position (Engine running).
Is any DTC set?
Replace the column switch assembly (integrated with steering wheel sensor) (Refer to GROUP 54A - Column switch assembly ) and then go to Step 4.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).

STEP 4.
Replace the EPS motor (EPS-ECU) (Refer to ).
This diagnosis is complete.
