DTC C1517 Failure action of torque sensor signal

cautionWhenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.

OPERATION
The microcomputer performs arithmetic processing on the signal input from the torque sensor.

FUNCTION
When it is determined that the signal input to the EPS-ECU or the calculation process is abnormal.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT
Check Conditions
  • Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position (Engine running).
Judgment Criterion
  • When it is determined that there is an abnormality in the output signal of each torque sensor or arithmetic processing.
Fail Safe, Back Up Function
  • The EPS-ECU is in motor control output limit state, turns on the electric steering warning light, and sets DTC C1517.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Malfunction of the steering column shaft assembly (torque sensor).
  • Malfunction of the EPS-ECU

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set again.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position (Engine running).
(4) Check if the DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the EPS-ECU (Refer to ).
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).

STEP 2.
Replace the steering column shaft assembly (Refer to ).
This diagnosis is complete.
