DTC U0141 ETACS CAN timeout

caution
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect DTC may be set. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C, CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ).
  • Whenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.

OPERATION
The EPS-ECU receives the signals from ETACS-ECU through CAN communication.

FUNCTION
The signals from the ETACS-ECU are sent to the EPS-ECU for motor control.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT
Check Conditions
  • Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
Judgment Criterion
  • The signals from the ETACS-ECU are not sent.
Fail Safe, Back Up Function
  • The EPS-ECU sets DTC U0141.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Malfunction of CAN bus line
  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU power supply circuit
  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
  • Malfunction of the EPS motor (EPS-ECU)

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line.
Diagnose the CAN bus line.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN-Related Diagnosis Code Table ).

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the other DTC is set.
Use M.U.T.-IIISE to check if the same that DTC U0141 is set in the other ECU (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN-Related Diagnosis Code Table ).
Is any DTC set?
Go to Step 3.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set again.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position (Engine running).
Is any DTC set?
Replace the ETACS-ECU (Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS-ECU ).
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set again.
(1) Erase the DTC code.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position (Engine running).
Is the DTC set?
Replace the EPS motor (EPS-ECU). (Refer to ).
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
