MAINTENANCE MODE <VEHICLES WITH ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE>
When the system enters the maintenance mode, the electric parking brake will be released completely. Then you can push back the brake piston to replace the rear brake pad or the rear disc brake rotor. Use the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) or the switch to make the system enter the maintenance mode.

Use the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) to make the system enter the maintenance mode.
1. Raise the vehicle using a jack and support the specified points with a rigid rack.
2. Turn off the ignition switch.
3. Connect the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) to the data link connector (Refer to ).
4. Move the selector lever to "P" position, and turn on the ignition switch (but do not start the engine).
5. Depress the brake pedal.
noteKeep the brake pedal depressed until the ignition switch is turned off.
6. Operate the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) as below:
(1) Select "EPB" on the system selection screen.
(2) Select "Actuator Test".
(3) Select "Full release control".
7. The brake warning light (red) and the electric parking brake switch indicator light should blink, and the system should enter the maintenance mode.
noteOnce the system has entered the maintenance mode, the electric parking brake is released completely.
8.
caution
  • Do not operate the electric parking brake switch to apply the parking brake. If yes, the maintenance mode will be cancelled.
  • When the electric parking brake switch is pulled up even with the ignition switch OFF, the maintenance mode will be cancelled.
Release the brake pedal.
9. Turn off the ignition switch.
10. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Use the switch to make the system enter the maintenance mode.
noteUse the switch only if the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) is not available.
1. Raise the vehicle using a jack and support the specified points with a rigid rack.
2. Move the selector lever to "P" position, and turn on the ignition switch (but do not start the engine).
3. Depress the brake pedal.
noteKeep the brake pedal depressed until the ignition switch is turned off.
4.
caution
  • Do not operate the electric parking brake switch too quickly (wait for at least two seconds by the next switch operation). If yes, the ECU can not recognize the switch operation. This may cause the indicator light or the warning light not to flash.
  • It is necessary to execute Step 5 and Step 6 within 7 seconds after executing Step 4 (brake warning light (red) and electric parking brake switch indicator light flashing).
Operate the electric parking brake switch and alternately apply and release the parking brake 10 times, and the brake warning light (red) and the electric parking brake switch indicator light will flash.
noteThe multi-information display should show "PARKING BRAKE TEMPORARILY NOT AVAILABLE".
5. Operate the electric parking brake switch once to release the parking brake.
6. Press the brake auto hold switch 10 time or more as soon as possible, then perform the release operation of the electric parking brake switch once.
7. After the system enters the maintenance mode, the electric parking brake warning light (yellow) will stay on (do not flash anymore).
note
  • The multi-information display should show "PARKING BRAKE SERVICE REQUIRED".
  • Once the system has entered the maintenance mode, the electric parking brake is released completely.
  • If you failed the operation of the switch and did not enter maintenance mode, repeat the procedure after 60 seconds have elapsed.
8.

How to resume normal operation mode
1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Turn on the ignition switch.
3. The warning light, the indicator light and the multi-information display should be activated as follows:
When you made the system enter the maintenance mode by using the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE)
  • Brake warning light (red): blinks
  • Electric parking brake switch indicator light: blinks
When you made the system enter the maintenance mode by using the switch
  • Electric parking brake warning light (yellow): illuminates
  • Brake warning light (red): blinks
  • Electric parking brake switch indicator light: blinks
  • Multi-information display: PARKING BRAKE SERVICE REQUIRED
noteIf the system enters the maintenance mode unintentionally, turn off the ignition switch and wait for at least 60 seconds. Then turn on the ignition switch.
4. Operate the electric parking brake switch to apply the parking brake.
5. When the normal operation mode has been resumed, the brake warning light (red) and the electric parking brake switch indicator light should stay on (do not flash anymore).
