DTC SET CONDITIONS
Check Conditions
  • After 2 seconds have passed since the ignition switch was turned to "ON" position.
  • Battery positive voltage is between 10 and 16 volts.
Judgment Criterion
  • When the battery current sensor coding has failed 3 times.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
  • None.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (The most likely causes for this code to be set are:)
  • Battery current sensor failed.
  • Open or shorted battery current sensor circuit, harness damage or connector damage.
  • ECM failed.

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
(1) Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) to the data link connector.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Set scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the DTC.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the diagnostic trouble code other than P1538 set?
Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart .
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
(1) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position (engine stopped).
(2) After at least 15 seconds have passed, read the DFI and MFI-DTC again.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is DTC U1F61 set?
Replace the battery current sensor. Then go to Step 3.
It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent. Refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions .

STEP 3.
Replace the ECM (Refer to Removal and Installation ). Then go to Step 4.
The inspection is complete.

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
(1) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(2) After at least 15 seconds have passed, read the DFI and MFI-DTC again.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is DTC U1F61 set?
Retry the troubleshooting.
The inspection is complete.
