DTC P1537: LIN Communication Error (sending message to battery current sensor)
 
 
 
 
CIRCUIT OPERATION
  • Power is supplied by the battery to the battery current sensor.
  • The battery current sensor sends a signal to the ECM connector terminal LNBS via the Local Interconnect Network (LIN).
 
 
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The ECM monitors the status of the Local Interconnect Network (LIN) between the ECM and the battery current sensor.
 
 
DTC SET CONDITIONS
Check Conditions
  • After 2 seconds since the ignition switch is turned ON or since the completion of engine start.
  • Battery positive voltage is more than 10 volts and is less than 16.5 volts.
Judgment Criterion
  • The battery current sensor cannot receive the data from the ECM.
 
 
FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
  • Prohibits generator output suppression control against current consumers (operates as a normal generator).
 
 
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (The most likely causes for this code to be set are:)
  • Battery current sensor failed.
  • Open or shorted in battery current sensor circuit, harness damage or connector damage.
  • ECM failed.
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Measure the power supply voltage at battery current sensor harness side connector.
(1) Disconnect the battery current sensor connector and measure at the harness side.
(2) Measure the voltage between terminal power supply line and ground.
  • Voltage should be battery positive voltage.
Is battery positive voltage (approximately 12 volts) present?
Go to Step 2.
Repair or replace the connector(s), or check and repair the harness of short to ground and open circuit in power supply line between battery and battery current sensor connector. Then go to Step 6.
 
STEP 2. Check of harness damage in power supply line between battery and battery current sensor connector.
Is the harness wire in good condition?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness. Then go to Step 6.
 
STEP 3. Check of open circuit, short to ground and harness damage in LNBS line between battery current sensor connector and ECM connector.
Is the harness wire in good condition?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness. Then go to Step 6.
 
STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
(1) Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to HOW TO CONNECT THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-IIISE) .
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) After the DTC has been deleted, read the DTC again.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is DTC P1537 set?
Go to Step 5.
It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent. Refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions .
 
STEP 5. Replace the battery current sensor.
(1) Replace the battery current sensor.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) After the DTC has been deleted, read the DTC again.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is DTC P1537 set?
Replace the ECM (Refer to Removal and Installation ). Then go to Step 6.
The inspection is complete.
 
STEP 6. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
(1) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(2) After the DTC has been deleted, read the DTC again.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is DTC P1537 set?
Retry the troubleshooting.
The inspection is complete.
