Inspection Procedure 4: The SRS warning light does not go out.

OPERATION
  • The SRS warning light illuminates when the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position and goes out after approximately 6 to 8 seconds if there is not a malfunction in the SRS system.
  • SRS-ECU sends the SRS warning light signal to the combination meter via the CAN communication.
  • As a cause, the failure of CAN bus line, combination meter, or SRS-ECU is suspected.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors
  • Combination meter malfunction
  • Malfunction of SRS-ECU

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the scan tool ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C, Diagnosis ).

STEP 2. Recheck of the SRS warning light
(1) Connect the negative battery terminal.
(2) Ignition switch: ON
Does the SRS warning light illuminate for approximately 6 to 8 seconds and then go out after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Go to Step 3

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the special function.
Use scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) to perform the combination meter special function (Refer to GROUP 54A - Combination Meter - Special function table ).
  • Item No. 9: Indicator (AUTO)
Does the SRS warning light turn on and off normally?
Go to Step 4.
Replace the combination meter (Refer to GROUP 54A - Combination Meter - Combination meter ).

STEP 4. Check the DTC.
After erasing the DTC memory, check the diagnostic trouble code.
Is the DTC set?
Troubleshoot for the relevant diagnostic trouble code. (Refer to .)
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Recheck of the SRS warning light
Does the light stay ON?
Replace the SRS-ECU (Refer to ).
This diagnosis is complete.
