DTC C1657 Implausible coding data
 
 
caution
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect DTC may be set. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C, CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ).
  • Whenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.
 
 
OPERATION
Vehicle information is written in EPS-ECU by coding.
 
 
 
FUNCTION
The EPS-ECU judges the vehicle condition by the written coding data.
 
 
 
TROUBLE JUDGMENT
Check Conditions
  • The power supply circuit system DTC (C1540, C1541) is not set.
Judgment Criterion
  • When the abnormality in the coding information is detected.
Fail Safe, Back Up Function
  • The EPS-ECU sets DTC C1657.
  • Aggravated feeling of steerage
 
 
 
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Malfunction of the steering wheel sensor
  • Malfunction of the EPS-ECU
 
 
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
1. Confirm whether the value (LHD) of EPS-ECU coding item, "Item: Handle side(FOR EPS)", is suitable for the steering wheel position of the real vehicle or not. If it is not suitable, replace the EPS-ECU.
2. Check the data list "Item No. 22: Steering wheel angle" and If there is an abnormality, perform troubleshooting for steering wheel sensor (Refer to GROUP 35C - Troubleshooting ).
3. Replace the EPS-ECU (Refer to ).
