Inspection Procedure 4: The A/C compressor and clutch assembly does not work

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the power is not supplied to the A/C compressor and clutch assembly, the A/C compressor and clutch assembly circuits may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • The refrigerant quantity is inadequate.
  • Malfunction of A/C compressor and clutch assembly
  • Malfunction of A/C compressor relay
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Check the refrigerant level.
Refer to .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Correct the refrigerant amount.

STEP 2. Voltage measurement at A/C compressor and clutch assembly and connector.
(1) Remove the relay and measure at the relay box side.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Voltage between terminal 1 and body ground.
OK: System voltage
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check the A/C compressor.
Refer to .
Is the A/C compressor in good condition?
Go to Step 4.
Replace the A/C compressor.

STEP 4. Trouble symptom recheck
Is the check result normal?
This diagnosis is complete.
Replace the engine control module.

STEP 5. Check the A/C compressor relay.
Refer to .
Is the A/C compressor relay in good condition?
Go to Step 6.
Replace the A/C compressor relay.

STEP 6. Voltage measurement at A/C compressor relay connector.
(1) Remove the relay and measure at the relay box side.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Voltage between terminal 1,4 and body ground.
OK: System voltage
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
Go to Step 7.

STEP 7. Check open circuit in A/C compressor line between ignition switch <Vehicles without one touch start system> or IG2 relay <Vehicles with one touch start system>, fusible link (6), and A/C compressor relay connector.
noteBefore the wiring harness check, check the junction block connector and joint connector.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 8. Check open circuit in AC/R and A/C compressor and clutch assembly line between A/C compressor relay, A/C compressor and clutch assembly and engine control module connector.
noteBefore the wiring harness check, check the junction block connector and joint connector.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
