Code No. C1560: Vehicle speed data (CAN)

caution
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect diagnostic trouble code may be set. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C, CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ).
  • Whenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.

OPERATION
  • EPS-ECU receives vehicle speed signal from the engine control module.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE SET CONDITION
EPS-ECU receives the vehicle speed data from the engine control module via CAN bus lines. If the EPS-ECU cannot receive the vehicle speed data from the engine control module, diagnostic trouble code No. C1560 will be set.

COMMENT ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
Current trouble
  • The wiring harness or connector in the CAN bus lines between the EPS-ECU and engine control module, the power supply system of the engine control module, or the EPS-ECU itself may be defective.
Past trouble
  • If diagnostic trouble code No. C1560 is set as a historic trouble, carry out the diagnosis with particular emphasis on the wiring harness and connector in the CAN bus lines between the EPS-ECU and engine control module as well as on the power supply system of the engine control module. For diagnosis procedures, refer to "How to treat past trouble" (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points ).
noteIn case of a historic trouble, the scan tool MB991958 CAN bus diagnosis cannot find the problem even when there is an abnormality in the CAN bus. In this case, be sure to diagnose the CAN bus lines in the same manner as for "How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction" (refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points ). You can narrow down the possible cause of the trouble by referring to the diagnostic trouble code, which is set regarding the CAN communication-linked ECUs (refer to GROUP 54C - Explanation About the Using SCAN Tool MB991958, diagnose the CAN bus lines. ).

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Defective harness wire(s) or connector(s)
  • Malfunction of the engine control module.
  • Malfunction of the EPS-ECU

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Use the scan tool MB991958 to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C, Troubleshooting ). After repairing the CAN bus lines, go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Use scan tool MB991958 to confirm a diagnostic trouble code of other systems.
Check that the engine control module sets a diagnostic trouble code.
Is the diagnostic trouble code set?
Perform the troubleshooting for the engine control module (Refer to GROUP 13A - Troubleshooting ).
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check whether the diagnostic trouble code is set again.
(1) Erase the diagnostic trouble code.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position.
(3) Check if the diagnostic trouble code is set.
Is diagnostic trouble code C1560 set?
Replace the EPS-ECU (Refer to ), and then go to Step 4.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4.
Return to Step 1.
The diagnosis is complete.
