DTC P0711: Malfunction of Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor

DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
TCM conducts fault detection by monitoring the terminal voltage of the transmission fluid temperature sensor.

DESCRIPTIONS OF MONITOR METHODS
The TCM checks whether the transmission fluid temperature rises to -20°C (-4°F) within the specified period after the engine is started.
  • Transmission fluid temperature is less than -40°C (-40°F): 230 seconds
  • Transmission fluid temperature is -34°C (-29°F): 230 seconds
  • Transmission fluid temperature is -20°C (-4°F): 70 seconds

MONITOR EXECUTION
  • Transmission fluid temperature: -20°C (-4°F) or less
  • Transmission range: D
  • Vehicle speed: 32 km (20 mph) or more
  • Accelerator pedal opening angle: 12.5% or more
  • Engine speed: 450 r/min or more

MONITOR EXECUTION CONDITIONS (OTHER MONITOR AND SENSOR)
Other Monitor (There is no temporary DTC stored in memory for the item monitored below)
  • P0705: Malfunction of transmission range switch
  • P0712, P0713: Malfunction of transmission fluid temperature sensor
  • P0720: Malfunction of output speed sensor
  • P0741: Abnormality in lockup function
  • U0001: Malfunction of CAN communication
  • U0100: CAN time-out error (engine)
Sensor (The sensor below is determined to be normal)
  • Transmission range switch
  • Transmission fluid temperature sensor
  • Output speed sensor
  • Lockup solenoid valve

LOGIC FLOW CHARTS (Monitor Sequence)

DTC SET CONDITIONS
Check Conditions
  • Transmission fluid temperature: -20°C (-4°F) or less
  • Transmission range switch position: D.
  • Vehicle speed: 32 km/h (20 mph) or more.
  • Accelerator pedal position sensor voltage: 1.37 V or more.
  • Engine speed: 450 r/min or more.
Judgment Criteria
  • The transmission fluid temperature does not rise to -20°C (-4°F) within the specified period (70 - 230 seconds) after the engine is started.

OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN
The vehicle is driven for at least 250 seconds at 40 km/h (24.9 mph) or more while the selector lever is at D range and the accelerator opening angle is 20% or more.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of transmission fluid temperature sensor
  • Malfunction of transmission fluid cooler piping and oil pump
  • Malfunction of TCM

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Transmission fluid cooler piping and oil pump check
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the failure sections.

STEP 2. Check the following connector
  • CVT assembly connector
  • TCM connector
Check the terminals for a contact status problem and internal short circuit.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 3. Check for harness damage in SPWR and SGND line between the CVT assembly connector and the TCM connector
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 4. Transmission fluid temperature sensor check
Refer to .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the valve body assembly.

STEP 5. Symptom recheck after erasing diagnostic trouble code
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions .)
Replace TCM.
