EV COOLANT CHANGE
cautionDo not operate the electric water pump when the EV coolant level in the radiator condenser tank is lower than the "MIN" line. If the electric water pump is operated, the electric water pump bearing may sustain damage, resulting in a electric water pump breakdown or service life reduction.

EV COOLANT DRAINING
1.
warningBe very careful because the EV coolant may be very hot.
Remove the engine room under cover front A, B (Refer to Body Exterior, Doors, Roof & Vehicle Security - Exterior, Under Cover Removal and Installation).
2. Remove the drain plug and EV radiator condenser tank in order, then drain the EV coolant.
3. Tighten the drain plug to the specified torque.
noteInstall a new O-ring.
Tightening torque: 1.2 ± 0.4 N·m (11 ± 3 in-lb)

EV COOLANT REFILLING
Required Special Tools <When using M.U.T.-IIISE>:
  • MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
  • MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
  • MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
  • MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
cautionUse the MITSUBISHI MOTORS GENUINE SUPER LONG LIFE COOLANT PREMIUM without adding water because the concentration is preadjusted to 50%
1. Prepare the required volume of EV coolant using a jug so as to avoid running out of EV coolant during the refilling and causing any damage to the electric water pump.
note*: Similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrate and non-borate coolant with long life hybrid organic acid technology.
  • Recommended EV coolant: MITSUBISHI MOTORS GENUINE SUPER LONG LIFE COOLANT PREMIUM or equivalent*
  • Quantity: 4.7 dm3 (5.0 quarts)
2. Remove the EV radiator condenser tank cap.
3. Fill the EV coolant up to the EV radiator condenser tank filler port.
4. According to either of the procedures below, start the "EV Coolant refilling control".
(1) When not using M.U.T.-IIISE
.....1. Pull up the electric parking brake switch.
.....2. Change the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to ON.
.....3. Press the innovative pedal operation mode switch 10 times or more within 7 seconds.
(2) When using M.U.T.-IIISE
.....1.
caution
  • When connecting and disconnecting of the M.U.T.-IIISE, it is necessary to change the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to OFF in advance.
  • While the M.U.T.-IIISE is communicating with the vehicle, the electric motor switch may not be turned off and on normally. Therefore, when you turn off the electric motor switch for that communication, wait for several seconds and then turn on it again (do not turn on it immediately).
Change the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to OFF. Then connect the M.U.T.-IIISE to the data link connector.
.....2. Change the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to ON.
.....3. On the system selection screen of M.U.T.-IIISE, select "PHEV".
.....4. On the PHEV screen, select "Special Function".
.....5. Select item No. 10 "EV Coolant refilling control"
5. There will be a wait time of 20 seconds after the start of "EV Coolant refilling control" until the actuation of electric water pump. During this period, hold the prepared jug, and insert the jug tip into the EV radiator condenser tank filler port to be ready to fill the EV coolant.
6. Wait for 20 seconds. As the EV coolant level drops due to the intermittent operation of the electric water pump, refill the EV coolant up the radiator condenser tank filler port.
note
  • In a case if the prepared coolant becomes about to run out, turn the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to OFF beforehand, and stop the "EV Coolant refilling control" (at this time, perform the work with two people).
  • Including the wait time, "EV Coolant refilling control" will be completed within 10 minutes from the start (during this period, 31 times of 4-second operation are included).]
If the EV coolant change is not completed, or if the control is stopped during the work, the refilling can be resumed by starting "EV Coolant refilling control" once again.
  • If air is mixed in the electric water pump when the EV coolant is refilled, the PHEV-ECU may set DTC No. P3126-01: Water Pump Function Monitor B, which is associated with the electric water pump, and the refilling will be aborted. In that case, turn off the electric motor switch, and then turn on again to repeat the operation from step 4. When the EV coolant has been refilled, erase the DTC from the PHEV-ECU.
  • The water pump cycles 4 seconds operation and 10 seconds stop during the intermittent operation.
7. Until the motor coolant level stops decreasing by the electric water pump operation, repeat the step 6 above.
noteThe EV coolant refilling will be complete in about 3 to 4 minutes.
8. For the air bleeding of the EV cooling system, operate the electric water pump for at least 1 minute according to either of the procedures below.
(1) When not using M.U.T.-IIISE
.....1. Operate the electric motor switch with the brake pedal depressed.
.....2. Change the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to ON, then make the READY indicator illuminate for at least 1 minute.
noteThe electric water pump will run as long as the READY indicator illuminates.
If the READY indicator continues to illuminate for at least 1 minute, the electric water pump has been activated for at least 1 minute.
Then connect the M.U.T.-IIISE to the data link connector.
.....2. Change the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to ON.
.....3. Turn ON the READY indicator.
.....4. On the system selection screen of M.U.T.-IIISE, select "PHEV".
.....5. On the PHEV screen, select "Actuator Test".
.....6. Select item No. 10 "Water pump actuate (EV)"
9. Turn the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to OFF, and then deactivate the electric water pump.
10. When the EV coolant level in EV radiator condenser tank is at the "MIN" line or higher, the air bleeding is complete.
11. If the EV coolant level in EV radiator condenser tank is at the "MIN" or lower, fill the EV coolant to the "MAX" line, and then perform the air bleeding of above step 8 again.
12. Adjust the coolant level so that the EV coolant level in EV radiator condenser tank comes to near the "MAX" line when the electric water pump is stopped.
13. Tighten the EV radiator condenser tank cap securely.
14. Install the engine room under cover front A, B (Refer to Body Exterior, Doors, Roof & Vehicle Security - Exterior, Under Cover Removal and Installation).
