Removal and Installation

  • Be sure to check precautions and notes by referring to PRECAUTIONS for SEAT before work. Precaution for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER"
  • Never attempt to disassemble or repair the occupant detection system control unit. If faulty, replace it.
  • Do not drop or subject the occupant detection system control unit to impact or vibration. Replace the occupant detection system control unit, if dents, cracking, deformation, or rust are present.
caution
  • When replacing the occupant detection system control unit, be careful not to apply static electricity to it.
  • The occupant detection system control unit must not be damped with any liquid or steam.
Pre-removal Operation
  • Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Removal steps
1.Negative (-) battery cable
2.Occupant detection system control unit (Refer to Front Seat Assembly Disassembly and Assembly).
Installation steps
•Pre-installation inspection

1.Negative (-) battery cable

REMOVAL SERVICE POINT
 
 
<<A>> NEGATIVE (-) BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION
dangerWait at least 3 minutes after disconnecting the battery cable before doing any further work.
warningBattery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds. WASH HANDS AFTER HANDLING.
Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery and tape the terminal to prevent accidental connection and air bag(s) deployment.
 
 
 
 
INSTALLATION SERVICE POINTS
 
 
>>A<< PRE-INSTALLATION INSPECTION
Check the occupant detection system control unit for dents, breakage and bending and measure the resistance between the terminals, even when installing a new occupant detection system control unit.
 
 
>>B<< POST-INSTALLATION INSPECTION
1. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
2. Check that the air bag warning light is illuminated, and extinguished afterward.
3. If the light does not extinguish, perform the troubleshooting.
