DTC Description

DESCRIPTION
ECM receives vehicle speed signals from two different paths via CAN communication line: One is from the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) via the combination unit and the other is from TCM.

(Trouble diagnosis content)
DTC detection condition
P050000VEHICLE SPEED SEN A
(Vehicle speed sensor “A” circuit
Diagnosis condition
  • Selector lever: D position
  • Vehicle speed: 20 km/h (13 MPH)
Signal (terminal)Vehicle speed signal
ThresholdThe difference between a vehicle speed calculated by a output speed sensor transmitted from TCM to ECM via CAN communication and the vehicle speed indicated on the combination meter exceeds 15 km/h (10 MPH)
Diagnosis delay time5 seconds or more

POSSIBLE CAUSE
  • Combination meter
  • ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit)
  • Wheel sensor
  • TCM
  • Output speed sensor

FAIL-SAFE
Engine operating condition in fail-safe mode
Fail safe modeVehicle behavior
Traveling control modeAccelerator angle variation controlECM controls the accelerator pedal depression speed to make it slower than actual speed. This causes a drop in accelerating performance and encourages the driver to repair malfunction.
noteECM does not control the accelerator pedal releasing speed.
Combustion control modeIdle speed controlStops feedback control of idle speed and controls with specified speed.
Recovery speed control at deceleratingStops recovery speed control by the fuel cut at decelerating and controls with specified speed.
Idle neutral controlStops idle neutral control.

DTC Confirmation Procedure
1.CHECK DTC PRIORITY
If DTC P0500 is displayed with DTC UXXXX or P0607, first perform the trouble diagnosis for DTC UXXXX or P0607.
Is applicable DTC detected?
Perform diagnosis of applicable. Refer to DTC Index.
.

2.PRECONDITIONING
If DTC Confirmation Procedure has been previously conducted, always perform the following procedure before conducting the next test.
  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
  2. Turn ignition switch ON.
  3. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
TESTING CONDITION:
Before performing the following procedure, confirm that battery voltage is 10 V or more at idle.
: .

3.PERFORM DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
  1. Start engine.
  2. Shift the selector lever to D range and wait at least for 2 seconds.
  3. Drive the vehicle at least 5 seconds at 20 km/h (13 MPH) or more.
cautionAlways drive vehicle at a safe speed.
noteThis procedure may be conducted with the drive wheels lifted in the shop or by driving the vehicle. If a road test is expected to be easier, it is unnecessary to lift the vehicle.
  4. Check 1st trip DTC.
Is 1st trip DTC detected?
-1To check malfunction symptom before repair: Refer to Intermittent IncidentIntermittent Incident.
-2Confirmation after repair: INSPECTION END
