REMOVAL
noteWhen reconnecting spiral cable, fix cable with a tape so that fixing case and rotating part keep aligned. This will omit neutral position alignment procedure during spiral cable installation.

cautionUse the special tool to remove the steering wheel since the steering column collision adsorbing mechanism may be damaged.
1. Set vehicle to the straight-ahead position.
2. Remove driver air bag module. Refer to Removal and Installation.
3. Do not remove the steering wheel bolt. Only loosen the bolt.
4. Install the steering wheel puller (SST: MB990803) to the steering wheel assembly.
5. In order to avoid damage to the steering wheel bolt , insert a washer between the steering wheel bolt and the bolt of the steering wheel puller (SST: MB990803) (A). Then, tighten the bolt of the steering wheel puller (SST: MB990803) and remove the steering wheel assembly.
notePut paint marks on the steering wheel and the column shaft head for supporting accurate positioning during the installation procedure.

INSTALLATION
Note the following, and install in the reverse order of removal.
  • Perform steering torque calibration after replacing or removal and installation the steering wheel. Refer to Work Procedure.
  • If equipped with MI-PILOT Assist, perform steering torque calibration after replacing or removal and installation the steering wheel. Refer to Work Procedure.
